RASA VADA



Ingredients:-
For Vada
1.      Channa Dal (Kadala parippu)- 1cup
2.      Raw rice- 1 tbsp
3.      Turmeric powder- ¼  tbsp
4.      Ginger- 1 small piece
5.      Green chilly - 4
6.      Curry leaves
7.      Coriander leaves
8.      Fennel seeds - 1 tsp
9.      Salt
10.  Finely chopped onion – 1
11.  Asafetida – a pinch
For Rasam
1.      Tamarind – 1 lemon size
2.      Tomato (medium) ground to a paste– 2
3.      Pepper powder – 1 tsp
4.      Cumin powder – 1 tsp
5.      Jaggery – 1 tbsp
6.      Rasam powder – 1 ½ tbsp
7.      Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
8.      Water – 6 cups
9.      Ghee  – 2 tbsp
10.  Mustard – 2 tsp
11.  Red chilly – 2
12.  Asafetida – ¼ tsp
13.  Salt
How to prepare:
1.      Vada: Soak channa dal and rice in water for 2 hrs and drain the water completely. Grind items 1 to 11 in a grinder (dal should only be crushed and not a fine paste). Wet your hands, make small balls with the mix and flatten them within your palms.

     Heat oil in deep pan, fry the vadas in medium heat till they become crispy and brown. Drain the vadas and keep aside.

        Rasam: Take 6 cups of water in a pan, add items 1 to 7 and salt and boil for 5 mts. In a separate  pan heat ghee, add items 10 to 12 when it start spluttering remove from fire and add to the rasam.

Put the vadas into the rasam, garnish with coriander leaves and serve after one hour.
