KURUKK-KALAN
Ingredients
- Yam – 250 gm
- Raw nenthrakaya-2
- Shredded coconut – 2cups
- Sour curd - 2cups
- Black pepper – 2 tsp powdered
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
- Green chilly – 5
For seasoning
- Coconut oil – 2 tsp
- Dry red chilly – 2 broken
- Mustard – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves - 2 springs
- Fenugreek seeds – ¼ tsp
Method
- Peel and cut the yam into ¾ inch size pieces.
- Peel the raw banana and cut to ½ inch pieces and cook both yam and banana in a vessel adding enough water, black pepper powder, turmeric powder and salt.
- Grind the shredded coconut, jeera and green chilly to a fine paste, add this to the cooked yam and banana, bring to boil in medium flame. Finally add sour curd, when start boiling, turn off the flame.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, red chilly and curry leaves, let it splutter, then add the seasoning to kalan and cover it with a lid. Use after a few minutes.
