KURUKK-KALAN


Ingredients

  1. Yam – 250 gm
  2. Raw nenthrakaya-2
  3. Shredded coconut – 2cups
  4. Sour curd  - 2cups
  5. Black pepper – 2 tsp powdered
  6. Jeera – 1 tsp
  7. Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  8. Green chilly – 5

 

For seasoning

  1. Coconut oil – 2 tsp
  2. Dry red chilly – 2 broken
  3. Mustard – 1 tsp
  4. Curry leaves - 2 springs
  5. Fenugreek seeds – ¼ tsp

 

Method

  1. Peel and cut the yam into ¾ inch size pieces.
  2. Peel the raw banana and cut to ½ inch pieces and cook both yam and banana in a vessel adding enough water, black pepper powder, turmeric powder and salt.
  3. Grind the shredded coconut, jeera and green chilly to a fine paste, add this to the cooked yam and banana, bring to boil in medium flame. Finally add sour curd, when start boiling, turn off the flame.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, red chilly and curry leaves, let it splutter, then add the seasoning to kalan and cover it with a lid.  Use after a few minutes.
