KAYA (RAW BANANA) - CHENA (YAM) ERISSERI

  

Ingredients

  1. Raw Banana -2
  2. Yam – 250 gms
  3. Grated Coconut – ¼ cup
  4. Jeera – 1 tsp
  5. Pepper corns  – 2 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  7. Raw rice -1 tsp
  8. Salt to taste

 For Seasoning

  1. Urad dal/Bengal gram –1 tsp
  2. Mustard seeds – 2 tsp
  3. Grated coconut – ¼ cup
  4. Dry red chilly – 2 broken
  5. Curry leaves a few
  6. Ghee / coconut oil – 2 tbsp

 

Method

  1.  Peel the raw banana and yam, cut into 1 inch pieces and keep aside.
  2. Grind the pepper corns to a smooth paste with little water.
  3. Cook the yam and raw banana adding enough water, turmeric and salt; when cooked add the pepper paste and again cook on slow flame for few mins.
  4. Grind ¼ cup coconut with jeera and raw rice then grind to a smooth paste.
  5. Add the coconut paste to the cooked yam and banana, allow cooking until done.
  6. Heat oil/ ghee in a pan, add mustard & urad dal, when it starts to crackle add dry red chilly and curry leaves.
  7. Then add ¼ cup grated coconut and roast until light brown, season the same with Erisseri.
  8. Serve with rice.
