KAYA (RAW BANANA) - CHENA (YAM) ERISSERI
Ingredients
- Raw Banana -2
- Yam – 250 gms
- Grated Coconut – ¼ cup
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Pepper corns – 2 tsp
- Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
- Raw rice -1 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Urad dal/Bengal gram –1 tsp
- Mustard seeds – 2 tsp
- Grated coconut – ¼ cup
- Dry red chilly – 2 broken
- Curry leaves a few
- Ghee / coconut oil – 2 tbsp
Method
- Grind the pepper corns to a smooth paste with little water.
- Cook the yam and raw banana adding enough water, turmeric and salt; when cooked add the pepper paste and again cook on slow flame for few mins.
- Grind ¼ cup coconut with jeera and raw rice then grind to a smooth paste.
- Add the coconut paste to the cooked yam and banana, allow cooking until done.
- Heat oil/ ghee in a pan, add mustard & urad dal, when it starts to crackle add dry red chilly and curry leaves.
- Then add ¼ cup grated coconut and roast until light brown, season the same with Erisseri.
- Serve with rice.
