PINEAPPLE RASAM


Ingredients

  1. Pineapple (ripe) – 250 gms
  2. Stock of Tuvar dal – 1 litre
  3. Tamarind  – 50 gms
  4. Red chilly powder  – 2 tbsp
  5. Coriander  – 1 tbsp
  6. Pepper powder  – 2 tsp
  7. Turmeric powder  - 1 tsp
  8. Asafoetida – ¼ tsp
  9. Garlic – 10 crushed
  10. Salt as needed
  11. Jaggery – according to your taste

 For Seasoning

  1. Oil – 2 tbsp
  2. Mustard -2 tsp
  3. Shallots – 10 chopped
  4. Dry red chilly – 2
  5. Curry leaves, Coriander leaves

Method

  1. Chop the pineapple into small pieces keep aside.
  2. Take a deep bowl, add tuvar dal stock (cook 1 cup of tuvar dal in 1 litre of water), to it add chilly, coriander, pepper, turmeric powders, asafoetida, salt and tamarind water (½ cup) and bring to boil in medium flame.  Add the pineapple pieces and cook until nice aroma of pineapple comes out.
  3. Heat oil in a pan add the seasonings, sauté well and add to the boiling rasam.
  4. Finally add jiggery, stir well and turn off the flame.
  5. Serve hot.
