KOZHI KULAMBU
Ingredients
- Chicken – 500gms
- Onion – 2
- Tomato – 2
- Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
- Chilly powder – 1 tbsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds -1 tsp
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Fenugreek – 1 tsp
- Oil – 4tbsp
- Vinegar 2 tsp
- Curry leaves - 2 strings
- Coriander leaves – a few
- Salt - as needed
For making paste
- Grated coconut – ½ cup
- Black pepper – 1 tsp
- Cardamom – 4
- Cinnamon – 1 small piece
- Cloves – 4
- Ginger – small piece
- Garlic – 1 tbsp chopped
- Red chilly -6
- Coriander seeds – 2 tsp
- Curry leaves – a few
Method
- Wash and clean the chicken pieces, marinate it with salt and turmeric powder and keep aside for ½ hr.
- Heat some oil and roast the items for making paste, when cooled grind it to a fine paste.
- Heat oil, add curry leaves, mustard, jeera, fenugreek and fry; then add chopped onion, sauté well until light brown, add chilly, turmeric and coriander powders, sauté , add chopped tomato, sauté until soft, then add ground paste, sauté for few mins.
- Finally add the marinated chicken pieces, vinegar and enough salt, cover with a lid and cook for 25 mins or until chicken become soft and tender.
- SERVE HOT WITH RICE /ROTI / APPAM
- This dish can also be prepared with cottage cheese/ paneer instead of chicken.
