KOZHI KULAMBU




Ingredients

  1. Chicken – 500gms
  2. Onion – 2
  3. Tomato – 2
  4. Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  5. Chilly powder – 1 tbsp
  6. Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  7. Mustard seeds -1 tsp
  8. Jeera – 1 tsp
  9. Fenugreek – 1 tsp
  10. Oil  – 4tbsp
  11. Vinegar 2 tsp
  12. Curry leaves - 2 strings
  13. Coriander leaves – a few
  14. Salt - as needed

For making paste

  1. Grated coconut – ½ cup
  2. Black pepper – 1 tsp
  3. Cardamom – 4
  4. Cinnamon – 1 small piece
  5. Cloves – 4
  6. Ginger – small piece
  7. Garlic – 1 tbsp chopped
  8. Red chilly -6
  9. Coriander seeds – 2 tsp
  10. Curry leaves – a few

Method

  1. Wash and clean the chicken pieces, marinate it with salt and turmeric powder and keep aside for ½ hr.
  2. Heat some oil and roast the items for making paste, when cooled grind it to a fine paste.
  3. Heat oil, add curry leaves, mustard, jeera, fenugreek and fry; then add chopped onion, sauté well until light brown, add chilly, turmeric and coriander powders, sauté , add chopped tomato, sauté until soft,  then add ground paste, sauté for few mins.
  4. Finally add the marinated chicken pieces, vinegar and enough salt, cover with a lid and cook for 25 mins or until chicken become soft and tender.
  5. SERVE HOT WITH RICE /ROTI / APPAM
  6. This dish can also be prepared with cottage cheese/ paneer instead of chicken.
